Since 1985, the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) research model has aimed to serve the agrifood sector and society.

IRTA provides government bodies, companies, cooperatives and others with human capital, expertise and infrastructure to contribute to the modernisation, competitiveness and sustainable development of the whole sector.

The institute tends to work with rather than for the sector, establishing joint strategies and projects which contribute to the modernisation, competitiveness and sustainable development of the agricultural, food, aquaculture and fishing sectors, the supply of healthy, good quality food to consumers and the general well-being of the population.
