Catalan Institute of Palaeontology Miquel Crusafont

Leading centre for research, conservation and the dissemination of knowledge about vertebrate and human palaeontology

The work of the Catalan Institute of Palaeontology Miquel Crusafont (ICP) focuses on: the palaeobiology of mammals in energy-limited ecosystems; research into the Mesozoic era; the study of the Neogene and Quaternary faunas, taking advantage of the wealth of sites in Catalonia; palaeoprimatology; and virtual palaeontology, which provides three-dimensional models and simulations.

The centre places particular emphasis on the dissemination of knowledge about our palaeontological heritage and its significance. Researchers’ findings are therefore on display to the public at the Crusafont Museum in Sabadell, and the centre is helping with the development of a network of local palaeontological interpretation centres around Catalonia.
