Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology

Tarraco, a site for the study of classical civilisations

The remains of ancient Tarraco are the setting for the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC), an institute devoted to research, training and dissemination of the knowledge provided by classical archaeology, specifically the ancient civilisations of the Mediterranean: Greeks, Romans and others directly related to them.

The centre focuses its research on the archaeology of the ancient city; landscape, settlement and territory archaeology; materials and trade in the ancient world; and classical archaeology and artistic production.

The ICAC also organises three cross-disciplinary methodology programmes, which include environmental and palaeo-environmental archaeology, archaeometry, ICT applied to archaeology and textual sources, epigraphy and numismatics.
