Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional

Committed to an improved understanding of how the economy functions

The Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional (Centre for Research in International Economics, CREI) is a research institute sponsored by the Generalitat de Catalunya and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). It is based at the UPF’s Ciudadela campus in Barcelona.

CREI research activities focus on international economics and macroeconomics in their broadest sense, including growth, business cycles, monetary economics, macroeconometrics and economic geography. The CREI’s purpose is to promote research based on the highest academic standards. It also aims to be a focus for disseminating new ideas, always in relation to the research dimension.

The CREI is an academic unit in the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (Barcelona GSE), with close ties to the UPF Department of Economics and Business, who it works with on numerous research and teaching activities.

In general, the CREI aims to contribute to promoting high-quality research in economics in Catalonia and Europe. Its mission is to contribute to a better understanding of how the economy works in contemporary society. Such understanding, based on rigorous research, is necessary to improve the design of policies and institutions to enhance economic growth and, in the process, the well-being of citizens around the world.
