Commitment to a better understanding of how the economy works

The Centre for Research in International Economics (CREi) is a research institute sponsored by the Generalitat de Catalunya and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). It is located on UPF’s Ciutadella Campus in Barcelona.

Its research activities focus on international economics and macroeconomics, understood in a broad sense, encompassing growth, business cycles, monetary economics, macroeconometrics, economic geography, etc.

CREi’s objective is to promote research subject to the highest standards of academic scholarship. Always with that research dimension in mind, CREi also wants to be a source for the dissemination of new ideas. CREi is an academic unit of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (Barcelona GSE), and it is close to the Department of Economics and Business at UPF. CREi collaborates with both institutions on many research and teaching activities. More generally, CREi wishes to contribute to the promotion of high quality economic research in Catalonia and in Europe as a whole. Its ultimate mission is to contribute to a better understanding of the economic forces that shape modern societies. Such an understanding, based on rigorous study, is necessary in order to improve the design of policies and institutions, with the aim of promoting economic growth and improving the welfare of our fellow citizens.
