The Clinic Foundation for Biomedical Research-August Pi Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (FRCB-IDIBAPS) is dedicated to biomedical research of excellence and addresses the most common diseases in our environment. Its mission is translational research, that is to say, it seeks to ensure that the questions that arise at the patient’s bedside have an answer in the laboratory and that the advances made in the laboratory are quickly transferred to patients.
Around 2,000 professionals work there, organized into a hundred multidisciplinary groups. With more than 1,500 original articles published per year, it is one of the main biomedical research centres in Spain and has a clear international vocation.
The FRCB-IDIBAPS is the result of the integration, in 2023, of the Clinical Foundation for Biomedical Research (FCRB), created in 1989, and the consortium Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), created in 1996. It is a non-profit foundation, and The Government of Catalonia, the Clinic Barcelona hospital and the University of Barcelona are represented on its board of trustees.
