Institute for Research in Biomedicine

Pushing forward the boundaries of biomedical research

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) is a first-class basic research centre whose mission is to make groundbreaking advances in biomedicine. To achieve this, IRB Barcelona adopts a unique multidisciplinary approach that blends ideas from the three fields of biology, chemistry and the computational sciences.

The institute aims to promote cutting-edge research in biomedicine, foster cooperation with local, national and international organisations and research institutes, provide high-level training in the biomedical sciences to staff, students and visitors, and foster innovation, technology transfer and open dialogue with society through conferences and educational activities. It is currently working on five research programmes: cellular and developmental biology, structural and computational biology, molecular medicine, oncology, and molecular pharmacology and chemistry.
